The popular Nokia 3310 handset is all set to come in a newly designed version, and according to owner HMD Global, the phone will come in the Indian market in the next quarter for a price of Rs 3,500.
HMD’s Chief Marketing Officer Pekka Rantala in an interview with PTI said, “All the products that we have announced Nokia 3310, Nokia 6, Nokia 5 and Nokia 3 will be available in the second quarter of this year in India. Average global selling price for Nokia 3310 is 49 euros (around Rs 3,470).” HMD Global Oy had launched the Nokia 3310 handset at the Mobile World Congress, held in Barcelona, Spain, along with other smartphones. The other devices that Nokia launched were the Nokia 6, Nokia 5 and Nokia 3.
According to an IANS report, Nokia considers India as an important market for its phones. Ajey Mehta, Vice President-India for HMD Global India Ltd. in an interview with IANS said, “By June, these products will be launched globally and India will serve as a key market for us again. Our attempt is to source 100 per cent from the country because of tax benefits.”
According to Nokia the crucial features that will drive the bid to be an important smartphone maker again, will be ‘core experience, design, quality and a pure Android experience’. Earlier, according to an IE.com report, the Nokia 3310 was said to come to India in May this year, but now HMD has cleared the speculation on the date and price of the global release of the smartphones.
Nokia, once a pioneer in mobile technology, had tried its hand with Microsoft to jump into the smartphone bandwagon but failed miserably.
Now, HMD Global, a Finnish company holds the rights to the Nokia brand and is trying aggressively to enter the mobile phone market by bringing smartphones as well as feature phones.
The company launched the Nokia 3, 5 and 6 at the same event, MWC 2017. Along with it, it brought back the famous Nokia 3310, the phone which was once termed as ‘unbreakable’.
The Nokia 3310 was first unveiled in the year 2000, and it had paved way for a new generation of devices with sturdy bodies and bigger batteries. The Nokia 3310 got re-released at the Mobile World Congress 2017.
