‘Evergreen’ actor Dev Anand passes away in London 


Evergreen star Dev Anand, one of the icons of Indian cinema, died Sunday after suffering a massive cardiac arrest in London. He was 88.
‘His son Sunil came out of the bathroom and saw that Dev saab was not responding. He called the doctor, who said that he had a heart attack. He died at 10 in the night in London,’ Mohan Churiwala, Dev Anand’s manager, told IANS.

The iconic star is survived by his wife, former actress Kalpana Karthik, a son and a daughter.
As soon as the news spread, a grief-stricken Bollywood offered condolences and recalled his significant contribution to cinema.

Dev Anand began his career with ‘Hum Ek Hain’ in 1946. However, he got his first big break with ‘Ziddi’ in 1948.

The flamboyant star is also known for giving big hits like ‘Baazi’, ‘Guide’, ‘Jewel Thief’, ‘Johnny Mera Naam’, ‘Hare Rama Hare Krishna’, ‘CID’ and ‘Tere Mere Sapne’.

His last outing as an ator and director was ‘Chargesheet’, a dud at the box office.
Mourning the demise of the legend, film fraternity Sunday took to Twitter to express sadness over the era that had ended with his death.

Dabboo Ratnani: ‘Saddened by the demise of Dev Saheb, Never had the privilege of working with him. His attitude has always been an inspiration…’

Shekhar Ravjiani: ‘Man I had the privilege to meet once in my life is no more. A legend Mr Dev Anand. God bless his soul.’
